Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community on Sunday in Washington D.C., aiming to strengthen economic ties between China and the United States. Han expressed hopes that U.S. companies will continue to invest and establish deeper roots in China, acting as a bridge to contribute to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Han is visiting Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as Chinese President Xi Jinping's special representative. During the meeting, Han noted that President Xi and President-elect Trump recently reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations during a phone conversation.
\"China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation,\" Han stated. \"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meets the expectations of the international community.\"
Emphasizing the significant role of the U.S. business community in bilateral relations, Han called them participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts. He assured that China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up endeavors and continue to improve its business environment.
The U.S. business leaders expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and the opportunities available. They noted that the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi sent a positive and encouraging message. \"As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist,\" they remarked.
They voiced support for strengthening dialogue and communication to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. He welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities in China and contribute to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations. Musk expressed Tesla's readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China and play an active role in enhancing economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.
