Chinese Vice President Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen China-U.S. Ties
Chinese Vice President Han Zheng has called for enhanced cooperation between China and the United States, expressing hope that American companies will continue to invest and thrive in China. During a meeting on Sunday with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C., Han emphasized the importance of U.S. businesses as a bridge in fostering stable and sustainable relations between the two nations.
Han Zheng is in Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as a special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Highlighting a recent phone conversation between President Xi Jinping and President-elect Trump, Han noted that the two leaders reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations. He stressed that China and the United States share broad common interests and significant potential for cooperation, stating that a strong bilateral relationship benefits both peoples and meets the expectations of the international community.
\"The U.S. business community has always been the backbone of China-U.S. relations,\" Han said, acknowledging their role as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up initiatives. He assured that China would continue to advance its reform and opening-up efforts and improve its business environment to facilitate greater collaboration.
Representatives of the U.S. business community responded positively, expressing optimism about China's economic prospects and the opportunities available. They agreed that the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi sent a positive and encouraging message, underscoring the importance of mutually beneficial cooperation. \"As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue constructive and stable ways to coexist,\" they said.
The U.S. business leaders affirmed their support for strengthening dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
In a separate meeting, Han Zheng also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed U.S. companies like Tesla to seize opportunities in China and share in the fruits of its development. He encouraged deeper investment and cooperation, highlighting the potential for Tesla to contribute to China-U.S. economic and trade exchanges.
Musk expressed his enthusiasm for expanding Tesla's investment in China and playing an active role in promoting economic and trade relations between the two countries.
