Chinese Vice President Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Boost Bilateral Ties

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community in Washington D.C. on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of strengthening China-U.S. relations and economic cooperation.

During the meeting, Han expressed hope that U.S. companies would continue to invest and establish deeper roots in China. He highlighted the vital role that U.S. businesses play as a bridge between the two nations, contributing significantly to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of bilateral ties.

“China and the United States share broad common interests and have vast potential for cooperation,” Han stated. “Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of our two countries and meets the expectations of the international community.”

Han is visiting Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday, serving as Chinese President Xi Jinping’s special representative. He noted that President Xi and President-elect Trump recently reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations during a phone conversation.

The vice president underscored China’s commitment to advancing reform and opening-up efforts, assuring that the nation will continue to improve its business environment. “The U.S. business community has always been the backbone of China-U.S. relations, participating in and witnessing the growth of our economic and trade cooperation,” Han added.

Representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce conveyed optimism about China’s economic prospects. They welcomed the positive message from the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi and expressed support for strengthening dialogue and communication between the two countries.

“As the world’s two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work toward a constructive and stable way to coexist,” the representatives noted. They affirmed the U.S. business community’s readiness to continue investing in China and contributing to the advancement of bilateral relations.

Han Zheng also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk during his visit. Han welcomed Tesla’s ongoing investment in China and encouraged the company to seize opportunities arising from China’s development. “We welcome U.S. companies, including Tesla, to share in the fruits of China’s growth and make greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations,” he said.

Musk expressed enthusiasm for deepening Tesla’s investment and cooperation with China. He acknowledged the significance of the Chinese market and reiterated the company’s commitment to playing an active role in fostering economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.
