Chinese Vice President Han Zheng Engages U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen Ties

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, expressing hope for continued investment and deeper roots in the Chinese market by U.S. companies. Han emphasized the importance of U.S. businesses in fostering steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

Han is visiting Washington, D.C., to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During his meeting with U.S. business leaders, including those from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Han noted that President Xi and President-elect Trump had recently reached important common understandings regarding the future development of China-U.S. relations during a phone conversation.

“China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation,” Han stated. “Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the well-being of the peoples of our two countries and meets the expectations of the international community.”

He acknowledged the U.S. business community as a backbone of China-U.S. relations, describing them as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China’s reform and opening-up initiatives. Han reassured that China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up efforts and continue to improve its business environment.

Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism following the positive and encouraging message from the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi. They highlighted that as the world’s two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards a constructive and stable coexistence.

The U.S. business leaders conveyed their optimism about China’s economic prospects and the opportunities it presents. They voiced support for strengthening dialogue and communication between the United States and China to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

On the same day, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities to share in the fruits of China’s development and contribute to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations. Musk expressed Tesla’s readiness to deepen its investment and cooperation with China and to play an active role in enhancing economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.
