Chinese Vice President Han Zheng Engages U.S. Business Leaders Ahead of Trump’s Inauguration

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community in Washington D.C. on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of strengthening China-U.S. relations through economic collaboration. As President Xi Jinping's special representative, Han is attending the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday.

During meetings with leaders from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Han expressed hope that U.S. companies would continue to invest and establish roots in China. He encouraged them to serve as a bridge between the two nations, contributing to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

Han highlighted that President Xi and President-elect Trump recently reached significant common understandings on the progress of China-U.S. relations during a phone conversation. He noted that both countries share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation. \"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meets the expectation of the international community,\" Han stated.

He acknowledged the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, recognizing its role as a participant, witness, contributor, and beneficiary of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts. Han assured that China will continue to advance its reform and opening-up policies and improve its business environment.

Representatives of the U.S. business community responded positively, noting that the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi sent an encouraging message. They emphasized that as the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and seek constructive and stable ways to coexist.

The U.S. business leaders expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and the opportunities for development there. They voiced support for strengthening dialogue and communication between the United States and China to further advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. He welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities in China and share in the fruits of its development. Han noted that such engagement would contribute significantly to promoting economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.

Musk expressed eagerness to deepen Tesla's investment and cooperation with China, stating the company's readiness to play an active role in fostering U.S.-China economic and trade relations.
