China Unveils New Customs Measures to Boost Central Region’s Development

Ezhou Huahu Airport in central China’s Hubei Province, the country’s first cargo-focused airport, marked a significant milestone last June as its accumulated international throughput exceeded 100,000 tonnes.

Since commencing international operations in April 2023, Ezhou Huahu Airport has rapidly expanded its network, now operating 18 international routes in addition to 50 domestic routes. The airport boasts a sprawling 750,000-square-meter cargo transfer center, equipped with parcel sorting lines totaling 52 kilometers in length.

In June last year, a new international air cargo route linking Ezhou Huahu Airport with Budapest, the capital of Hungary, was launched. This direct air route primarily serves parcel express and e-commerce goods, expanding air logistics channels between the two countries and enhancing economic exchanges between China and Europe.

On Sunday, China’s General Administration of Customs (GAC) unveiled 16 key measures aimed at further energizing the country’s central region. These measures include optimizing railway fast clearance procedures, supporting cross-border e-commerce, and establishing demonstration areas for absorbing relocated processing trade industries.

The implementation of these customs measures is expected to bolster economic growth in the central region, fostering greater connectivity and facilitating trade. With initiatives like the development of Ezhou Huahu Airport and the new customs policies, China continues to demonstrate its commitment to regional development and global economic engagement.
