New Marina in Port City Colombo Set to Boost Sri Lanka’s Tourism and Investment

The construction of a new marina in Port City Colombo is set to transform Sri Lanka into a vibrant hub for regional tourism and investment, according to Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, Herath emphasized that the port city serves as a crucial platform for attracting foreign investment and enhancing Sri Lanka’s international profile. “The development of the marina will fill a significant gap in high-end maritime services in South Asia and attract more high-net-worth tourists,” he said.

Herath highlighted that the construction of the port city will foster cultural and economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and China, aiding the nation in achieving its tourism revenue goals. “This project not only strengthens our ties with China but also positions Sri Lanka as a key player in the regional tourism industry,” he added.

Harsha Amarasekera, chairman of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission, echoed these sentiments, noting that the port city will continue to inject new impetus into Sri Lanka’s economy. “The commencement of this new project will not only create more employment opportunities but will also attract international high-end brands to settle in, boosting Sri Lanka’s economic recovery,” Amarasekera stated.

According to reports, the marina commercial project spans an area of approximately 20,400 square meters with a construction area of about 49,000 square meters. The development is expected to offer state-of-the-art facilities and services, further enhancing the appeal of Port City Colombo to global investors and tourists alike.
