Experts Anticipate China’s Key Economic Meeting to Focus on Consumption and Stability

China’s annual Central Economic Work Conference is set to convene in Beijing soon, mapping out the country’s economic policies and targets for 2025. Experts anticipate that the conference will focus on stabilizing market expectations and boosting domestic consumption to foster sustainable growth.

Ma Liang, a professor at the School of Government at Peking University, emphasized the importance of achieving a dual circulation between domestic and international markets, with a primary focus on domestic consumption. “To boost consumption, stabilizing expectations is crucial,” he said. “Only when the government takes responsibility in areas such as childbirth, education, and healthcare will people be willing to consume.”

Li Yong, a senior fellow at the China Association of International Trade, highlighted that industrial policies and measures on infrastructure and real estate are likely to be stressed during the meeting. “Another topic for discussion might include the sustainability of future economic development,” Li added. “I believe it will cover various aspects of the economy and set the tone for the 15th Five-Year Plan.”

The conference comes at a pivotal time as China seeks to navigate global economic uncertainties and reinforce its domestic market. By addressing key issues and implementing strategic policies, the meeting aims to lay a solid foundation for the country’s economic trajectory in the coming years.
