China Strongly Condemns New US Semiconductor Export Controls

China’s Ministry of Commerce has issued a strong rebuke against the United States following Washington’s latest semiconductor export control measures. In a statement released on Monday, the ministry accused the US of “saying one thing and doing another” by imposing unilateral sanctions under the guise of national security.

“The US has been abusing export control measures and expanding the concept of national security to disrupt international trade,” a spokesperson for the ministry said. “These actions have seriously obstructed normal international trade relations and undermined market rules and the international economic order.”

The US announced earlier on Monday a new set of restrictions targeting China’s semiconductor industry. The measures include tighter controls on the export of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and chips to China, as well as adding 136 Chinese entities to the US export control list.

China’s Ministry of Commerce denounced the move as “economic coercion” and “non-market behavior,” asserting that the US is interfering with trade between China and other countries. “China firmly opposes such actions,” the spokesperson stated, emphasizing the negative impact on global supply chains and the broader market.

The escalating tension between the world’s two largest economies has raised concerns among international investors and market analysts. The semiconductor industry is a critical component of global technology supply chains, and further restrictions could have widespread implications.

“These measures not only harm the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies but also affect the stability of global industrial and supply chains,” the spokesperson added. “We urge the United States to cease its wrongful actions and work towards maintaining normal trade relations.”

The ministry indicated that China would take necessary measures to safeguard its rights and interests but did not specify what actions might be taken.
