China on Monday expressed strong condemnation over the United States’ latest restrictions on semiconductor exports to the Chinese mainland.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce voiced deep concern regarding the tightened controls on semiconductor manufacturing equipment and storage chips.
The spokesperson highlighted that the U.S. has added 136 Chinese entities to its export control entity list and has exercised its long-arm jurisdiction to interfere with China’s trade with third parties. This action, according to the spokesperson, constitutes economic coercion and unfair market practices.
The Chinese government argues that the semiconductor industry is highly globalized, and the U.S.’ unilateral measures are severely hindering normal trade between countries, undermining market rules and the international economic order, and threatening the stability of global supply chains.
The spokesperson also noted that U.S. companies within the semiconductor industry will be adversely affected by these measures.
China has vowed to take necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
