Peruvian Scholar Sees Shared Prosperity in Chancay Port Inauguration

The Chancay Port, a landmark project in China-Peru Belt and Road cooperation, was officially inaugurated by leaders of both countries on Thursday. The port’s opening marks a significant milestone in infrastructure development and economic collaboration between China and Peru.

Carlos Aquino, a professor of economics at the National University of San Marcos, expressed optimism about the port’s potential impact on regional growth. In an interview with China Media Group, Aquino stated that the Chancay Port will benefit not only Peru but also many countries in South America.

“The inauguration of Chancay Port is a monumental step towards enhancing trade connectivity in the region,” Aquino said. “It will serve as a gateway for South American countries to engage more closely with Asian markets, fostering shared prosperity.”

The port is expected to streamline maritime logistics and boost economic opportunities by facilitating increased trade volumes. As a key component of the Belt and Road Initiative, the Chancay Port symbolizes the strengthening ties between China and South American nations.

Aquino highlighted the importance of international cooperation in infrastructure projects. “Collaborations like this are essential for sustainable development,” he noted. “They pave the way for economic growth, job creation, and improved living standards across the continent.”
