Leaders from across the globe have lauded the China International Import Expo (CIIE) for its significant role in promoting multilateral trade and fostering common development. The 7th CIIE, running from Tuesday to Sunday in Shanghai, hosts 3,496 exhibitors from 129 countries and regions, establishing itself as a world-class business gala.
World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala highlighted China’s commitment to global trade since joining the WTO in 2001. “China has been a strong supporter of the organization and played a key role in building capacity for least-developed countries,” she noted. As global tensions intensify, she emphasized the importance of collaboration among political and business leaders to preserve and reform the multilateral trading system in response to the changing economic landscape.
Rebeca Grynspan Mayufis, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, underscored the far-reaching impact of China’s export and import activities. “The expo sends a message of openness that businesses worldwide can connect, forge partnerships, and contribute to a more prosperous and interconnected global economy,” she said.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim praised the CIIE for offering companies worldwide, regardless of their size, a platform to showcase their capabilities and attract new investments. He advocated for multinational cooperation in free trade and sustainability as tools to actively advance global progress, rather than means to suppress competition or create conflict.
Denisa Sakova, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic, recognized the CIIE as a vital platform for international trade development and new global partnerships. “Our country has benefited greatly from participating in the expo, showcasing the best and latest products and innovations to Chinese consumers,” she remarked.
Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov affirmed that the CIIE has become an important platform for strengthening international economic integration. For Kazakhstan, the expo offers new opportunities to expand cooperation with foreign partners and distribute Kazakh goods in international markets.
Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov expressed his country’s efforts to leverage opportunities like the CIIE to enhance its position in the Chinese market. “This will definitely deepen cooperation and development in trade, economy, investment, and other areas,” he stated.
Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic highlighted the expo’s role in fostering not just business and commerce but also friendship and mutual understanding. “As a platform for enterprises, people, and cultures to come together from around the world, the CIIE strengthens global connections,” he said.
