Chart of the Day: 60 Years of China-Zambia Ties

October 29 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Zambia. As the first country in southern Africa to establish formal ties with China, Zambia shares a deep and longstanding friendship with China.

The partnership between the two nations has been built on mutual respect and cooperation over the past six decades. A cornerstone of this relationship is the Tanzania-Zambia Railway, also known as the TAZARA Railway, which was constructed with China’s support in the 1970s. This monumental project not only connected Zambia to the port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania but also symbolized the strong bonds between China, Zambia, and the broader African continent.

Throughout the years, China and Zambia have collaborated on various economic, cultural, and infrastructural initiatives, fostering growth and development in both nations. As they celebrate this significant milestone, both countries look forward to continuing their partnership for mutual benefit and prosperity.
