In a significant move to improve the quality of life for millions, President Xi Jinping has called for intensified efforts to enhance inclusive public services across the Chinese mainland. Emphasizing a people-centered approach, President Xi urged authorities at all levels to focus on meeting the essential needs of the people and ensuring basic living standards for those facing difficulties.
In his recent instruction on civil affairs work, President Xi, who also serves as the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, highlighted the importance of strengthening public services. He underscored the progress achieved in civil affairs over recent years and encouraged continued dedication to resolving the most immediate and pressing problems affecting the populace.
“We must prioritize the most practical issues that are of the greatest and most direct concern to the people,” President Xi stressed. He called upon Party committees and governments to adopt strategies that address the needs of aging populations, improve social assistance, enhance social welfare, and bolster social governance initiatives.
The President’s instruction was delivered at a national civil affairs conference held in Beijing over the weekend. The conference, which took place from Friday to Saturday, also featured an address by Premier Li Qiang, who is a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
President Xi encouraged civil affairs departments to take proactive steps in enhancing benefits for the people, meeting their needs, and assisting them in overcoming challenges.
