China Studies Tariff Increase on Imported Fuel-Powered Vehicles

China is considering increasing tariffs on imported fuel-powered vehicles with large displacement engines, the Ministry of Commerce announced on Tuesday. This move aims to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese industries and enterprises, according to a ministry spokesperson.

The decision comes amid a series of trade measures China is exploring to protect its domestic market. “China will take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese industries and enterprises,” the spokesperson stated.

In addition to potential tariffs on fuel vehicles, the ministry announced temporary anti-dumping measures on brandy originating from the European Union. The measures are in accordance with Chinese laws and regulations and adhere to World Trade Organization rules.

China is also conducting anti-dumping investigations into certain pork and pig by-products imported from the EU, as well as an anti-subsidy probe into certain imported EU dairy products. The ministry emphasized that it will fully protect the rights of all stakeholders and make objective and fair rulings based on the results of the investigations.
