Meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People on September 4, Abiy emphasized Ethiopia’s emergence as a model for African nations pursuing self-reliant development.

Abiy attended the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit and conducted an official visit to the Chinese capital. He lauded China’s unique blend of historical preservation and modernization, noting that it offers valuable lessons for Ethiopia’s urbanization and development efforts.

“China’s experience in balancing its rich history with rapid modernization is an inspiration for Ethiopia,” Abiy remarked. “We aim to learn from China’s strategies to enhance our own urbanization and industrial growth.”

The Ethiopian leader also praised Chinese investments in Ethiopia, acknowledging their significant contribution to the country’s economic and social progress. Chinese enterprises have been instrumental in developing Ethiopia’s infrastructure, manufacturing, and technology sectors.

“Chinese investment has been a catalyst for Ethiopia’s development,” Abiy stated. “It has played a crucial role in advancing our industrial capabilities and improving the livelihoods of our people.”

The meeting underscored the strengthening ties between Ethiopia and China, as both nations seek to deepen cooperation in various fields. The collaboration aligns with the broader objectives of the FOCAC Summit, which aims to promote mutual development and foster partnerships between China and African countries.
