Malawi is eager to deepen its cooperation with China while strengthening ties with other African nations, President Lazarus Chakwera stated during an interview with CGTN’s Zheng Junfeng at the 2024 China-Africa Cooperation Forum.
President Chakwera highlighted the significance of the forum as a platform for enhancing multilateral relationships and fostering economic growth across the continent. “Our partnership with China has opened new avenues for development, infrastructure, and trade,” he remarked. “We are committed to building on this foundation to achieve shared prosperity.”
The president emphasized the importance of collaboration in key sectors such as agriculture, energy, and technology. He noted that Chinese investments have been instrumental in advancing Malawi’s infrastructure projects, including the construction of roads, hospitals, and schools. “These developments are not just investments in Malawi but in the future of Africa,” he said.
Chakwera also called for increased cooperation among African countries, advocating for a united approach to address common challenges like climate change, health crises, and economic disparities. “By working together, we can amplify our voices on the global stage and create sustainable solutions that benefit all Africans,” he added.
The 2024 China-Africa Cooperation Forum brings together leaders from across the continent to discuss strategies for mutual growth and partnership with China. Topics on the agenda include trade agreements, infrastructure development, and cultural exchanges aimed at strengthening ties between China and African nations.
As Malawi looks to the future, President Chakwera expressed optimism about the potential of these partnerships to transform the country’s economy and improve the quality of life for its citizens. “We are confident that through cooperation and shared vision, we can achieve remarkable progress,” he concluded.
