After a prolonged delay due to technical issues, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s much-anticipated interview with billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk finally commenced on Monday evening on Musk’s social media platform X.
Heavy traffic and technical glitches had stalled the livestream for over 40 minutes, leaving many users unable to access the event. Musk attributed the difficulties to a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, a type of cyber attack where servers are overwhelmed with traffic to disrupt service, although this claim was not independently verified.
As the conversation kicked off at 8:42 p.m. (0042 GMT Tuesday), more than a million listeners tuned in, according to a counter on X. “Congratulations on breaking every record in the book,” Trump remarked, referencing the impressive number of viewers.
Musk opened the interview by asking Trump to recount the attempted assassination on July 13, during which Trump’s ear was grazed by a bullet.
Musk, known as the world’s richest person, endorsed Trump shortly after the incident. While he supported Democratic President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, Musk has since shifted his political stance.
