Chinese Minister Highlights Silver Economy for Elderly Well-being

Chinese Minister of Civil Affairs Lu Zhiyuan has emphasized the importance of developing the silver economy to enhance the well-being of the elderly population. In an interview with China Media Group (CMG), Lu announced plans to issue institutional documents aimed at promoting the reform and development of all-inclusive elderly care services.

“We will issue institutional documents to promote the reform and development of all-inclusive elderly care services,” Lu said. He highlighted the need for China to accelerate efforts to improve coordination among families, communities, and institutions to better meet the diverse needs of elderly care services.

The minister underscored the significance of creating a supportive environment that leverages the potential of the silver economy—a term referring to the economic opportunities arising from the public and consumer expenditure related to population aging and the specific needs of the elderly.

By fostering collaboration between various sectors and enhancing service provision, China aims to address the challenges posed by an aging society while improving the quality of life for its senior citizens.
