Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port Welcomes China’s Green Car Vessel ‘Min Jiang Kou’

In a grand ceremony on Wednesday, Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port celebrated the arrival of China’s newest green car vessel, the Min Jiang Kou, marking its maiden voyage in the Middle East. Operated by COSCO Shipping, this event signifies a significant milestone in enhancing trade links between China and the Gulf region.

Departing from Shanghai on July 13, the Min Jiang Kou successfully reached Dubai on Tuesday. The vessel boasts an impressive capacity of 7,500 car units, making it one of the largest roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessels globally. Measuring 199.9 meters in length and 38 meters in width, it features 13 decks—four of which are adjustable—allowing for versatile cargo options.

Equipped to handle a wide range of RoRo cargo, including passenger vehicles, buses, trucks, construction machinery, and new energy vehicles, the vessel represents a significant leap in shipping capabilities. Its advanced technologies provide real-time monitoring and precise positioning of vehicles, offering a visualized experience of the entire logistics supply chain.

Notably, the Min Jiang Kou incorporates advanced green technologies, reducing carbon emissions and pollutants by over 25 percent compared to traditional fuel vessels. This commitment to sustainability aligns with global efforts to promote environmentally friendly shipping practices.

Zhang Zhanhao, Operational Director of COSCO Shipping Car Carriers, highlighted the vessel’s impact on China’s export capacity and the establishment of a global automotive logistics supply chain. “This milestone provides crucial support for the international expansion of Chinese automobiles,” he stated.

On its maiden voyage, the vessel carried nearly 4,900 vehicles from over ten Chinese brands, all offloaded at Jebel Ali Port. Some of these vehicles will continue their journey to Dammam Port, further enhancing regional connectivity.

China’s automotive industry has been rapidly expanding into the Middle Eastern market. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the United Arab Emirates ranked as the ninth-largest market for Chinese vehicle exports in 2023. The arrival of the Min Jiang Kou underscores the strengthening trade relations between China and the Middle East, fostering economic growth and cooperation.
