Chinese Premier Li Qiang Calls for Global Cooperation on New Growth Frontiers

In a significant appeal for enhanced international collaboration, Chinese Premier Li Qiang urged nations to embrace an open mindset and work together to explore new frontiers of economic growth. Speaking on Tuesday during his meeting with Klaus Schwab, Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF), in Dalian, northeast China’s Liaoning Province, Li emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation amidst a sluggish global economic recovery.

“Finding new drivers of growth is crucial in the current global landscape,” Li stated. He highlighted that future industries, propelled by technological breakthroughs in areas such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and green energy, are poised to become the most active forces boosting global economic development. These advancements are expected to foster new sectors and business models with high growth potential.

Li underscored China’s commitment to innovation by proposing the implementation of an “artificial intelligence+” action plan. This initiative aims to inject stronger impetus into economic development through the widespread application of artificial intelligence across various industries.

Addressing concerns about rising protectionism, Li pointed out that the slowdown in world economic growth in recent years is closely linked to practices like “decoupling and breaking chains” and “building walls and barriers” by certain countries. He asserted that interconnectivity among economies leads to common progress, while isolation results in stagnation.

Klaus Schwab echoed Li’s sentiments on the necessity of international cooperation. “Under the current complex international situation, it is more imperative than ever to strengthen global collaboration,” Schwab said. He affirmed the WEF’s commitment to maintaining close cooperation with China to promote stable and healthy world economic development and to jointly address global challenges.

The meeting highlights the ongoing dialogue between China and international organizations like the WEF, emphasizing the shared goal of fostering global economic growth through innovation and cooperation.
