Chinese Premier Li Qiang arrived in New Zealand on Thursday, commencing his three-nation tour from June 13 to 20. This visit marks his first stop before official visits to Australia and Malaysia.
Upon arrival, Premier Li noted that this year signifies the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and New Zealand. Over more than 50 years of diplomatic ties, the relationship between the two countries has consistently been at the forefront of China’s relations with developed countries.
New Zealand has been a pioneer in international trade with China. It was the first developed country to recognize China’s market economy status, initiate free trade negotiations, and sign a Belt and Road cooperation agreement. These milestones highlight a strong and evolving partnership that continues to deepen with mutual benefits.
The visit is expected to bolster diplomatic, economic, and trade cooperation between the two nations. Discussions are anticipated to focus on reinforcing existing agreements and exploring new avenues for collaboration, emphasizing the shared commitment to prosperity and development in the region.
