Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the former prime minister of Pakistan, recently stated in an interview with CGTN that historical efforts to contain the economic growth of a nation have proven ineffective. He emphasized that such strategies not only fail but also hinder global progress.
Abbasi highlighted the importance of cooperation over competition in international relations. “History does not support the idea of containing a country’s development,” he said. “Economic growth should be encouraged universally, as it benefits all nations through shared prosperity.”
His comments come at a time when geopolitical tensions have led to trade restrictions and economic sanctions in various regions. Abbasi urged world leaders to focus on collaborative solutions to address global challenges such as poverty, climate change, and pandemics.
“Engagement and dialogue are the keys to overcoming differences,” Abbasi added. “Isolating a nation only leads to missed opportunities for mutual growth and understanding.”
Abbasi served as Pakistan’s prime minister from 2017 to 2018 and has been an active voice in promoting regional economic integration and peace.
