An upcoming article by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, is set to be published in the 11th issue of Qiushi Journal, the flagship magazine of the CPC Central Committee. In this article, Xi emphasizes the importance of developing new quality productive forces as a crucial element of high-quality development.
According to Xi, advancing scientific and technological innovation is essential for generating new industries, models, and momentum. He underscores that such innovation is at the core of developing new quality productive forces. Strengthening original and groundbreaking innovation is imperative, as is accelerating efforts to achieve “high-level self-reliance and strength in science and technology.”
He further highlights the necessity of promptly applying scientific and technological achievements to specific industries and industrial chains. This includes transforming and upgrading traditional industries, cultivating and strengthening emerging industries, planning for future industries, and improving the modern industrial system.
Xi also points out that green development underpins high-quality development, asserting that new quality productive forces are inherently green. He calls for accelerating the transition to a model of green development and working towards the goals of reaching carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
The article emphasizes that the relations of production must align with the requirements for developing productive forces. Xi stresses the need to deepen reform across the board to create new types of relations of production compatible with the development of new quality productive forces.
The article is based on a speech delivered by Xi during a group study session of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee in January 2024, reflecting his vision for China’s future development.
