At the 3rd UK-China Business Leaders Summit held on Tuesday, Chinese Ambassador to the United Kingdom Zheng Zeguang called on businesses from both countries to explore new avenues of cooperation and mutual benefit. Addressing a gathering of entrepreneurs, investors, and analysts, Ambassador Zheng emphasized the importance of Sino-British economic and trade collaboration in aligning with the fundamental interests of both nations.
“China’s economy is open and inclusive,” Zheng remarked in his keynote speech. “We will continue to reduce the negative list for foreign investment. After having already removed restrictions in the manufacturing and financial sectors, we will further relax restrictions in the medical and telecommunications service industries as well.”
The ambassador highlighted China’s advancements in the new energy sector, attributing its competitiveness to technological innovation, efficient industrial models, and economies of scale rather than government subsidies. “China’s manufacturing capacity meets global demand for green energy products,” he stated. “This helps countries combat inflation, accelerate the transition to green energy, and address the challenges posed by climate change.”
Zheng expressed China’s willingness to share development opportunities with global entrepreneurs, providing space for cooperation and growth. He urged UK businesses to seize these opportunities, fostering stronger ties and contributing to global economic stability.
The summit, organized by the UK Chinese Business Association, runs from May 27 to 29 under the theme of “Illuminating New Opportunities for UK and Chinese Businesses.” The event brings together leaders from various industries to discuss strategies for enhancing collaboration between the two countries.
Participants at the summit expressed optimism about the prospects of increased cooperation. “With the easing of investment restrictions and China’s commitment to openness, there’s significant potential for UK businesses to expand their presence in China,” said one attendee. “This can lead to mutual growth and innovation.”
The event underscores the ongoing dialogue between the UK and China, aiming to strengthen economic ties and explore new sectors for partnership, particularly in green energy and sustainable development.
