Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized on Sunday that economic and trade cooperation serves as the “ballast stone” for relations between China and South Korea. Speaking during a meeting with Lee Jae-yong, chairman of Samsung Group, on the sidelines of the ninth Trilateral Summit among China, Japan, and South Korea in Seoul, Li highlighted the deep intertwining of the two nations’ industrial and supply chains.
“Our countries have formed a community of interests,” Premier Li stated, underscoring the mutual benefits arising from their close cooperation. He pointed to Samsung’s longstanding partnership with China as a vivid example of the win-win development both nations have enjoyed.
Premier Li called on enterprises from both countries to explore new areas of collaboration, including high-end manufacturing, digital economy, artificial intelligence, green development, and biomedicine. “By tapping into these new sectors, we can continuously upgrade our economic and trade cooperation to achieve greater mutual success,” he said.
The premier reassured foreign enterprises of their indispensable role in China’s development. “China’s vast market will always be open to foreign companies,” he affirmed, welcoming South Korean businesses like Samsung to expand their investment and cooperation within China.
Lee Jae-yong expressed Samsung’s commitment to continuing its development in China. “We aim to contribute to the mutually beneficial cooperation between South Korea and China,” he said, echoing Premier Li’s sentiments on strengthening economic ties.
The meeting between Premier Li and Chairman Lee underscores the importance both nations place on economic collaboration, especially amidst the evolving global economic landscape. Their discussions signal a shared dedication to fostering a stable and prosperous partnership moving forward.
