The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), a leading national agency for foreign trade and investment promotion, has called on the United States to immediately cease its Section 301 investigation into China’s maritime, logistics, and shipbuilding sectors. In a recent statement, the CCPIT emphasized the need for both nations to return to a rules-based multilateral trading system.
The CCPIT described the U.S. Section 301 investigation as “unreasonable and groundless,” asserting that there is no causal relationship between the decline of the U.S. shipbuilding industry and Chinese laws, policies, or practices. The agency argued that the investigation lacks substantive evidence and undermines the principles of fair trade.
“Chinese maritime, logistics, and shipbuilding enterprises have actively embraced technological innovation and market competition,” the CCPIT stated. “Their efforts have significantly promoted the development of global trade and made important contributions to the stability and security of the global supply chain.”
The call from the CCPIT comes amid escalating trade tensions between the two largest economies in the world. The agency urged the U.S. to engage in dialogue and cooperation, highlighting the importance of mutual respect and adherence to international trade norms. By ending the investigation, the CCPIT believes both countries can work towards a more sustainable and prosperous global economy.
