Colombia’s vice minister of transport, Carlos Eduardo Enriquez Caicedo, expressed the country’s desire for increased cooperation with China during an interview with CGTN at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2024. He emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties and exploring opportunities for collaboration on infrastructure and transport projects.
“Colombia wishes to have greater and better cooperation with China,” Caicedo stated, highlighting that the Boao Forum serves as a valuable platform for fostering international partnerships. “We hope to facilitate collaboration on other projects through this forum,” he added.
The Boao Forum for Asia, often regarded as Asia’s equivalent of the World Economic Forum in Davos, brings together leaders from government, business, and academia to discuss pressing issues and promote regional economic integration. Colombia’s participation underscores its commitment to engaging with Asian nations and exploring avenues for mutual growth.
China has been investing significantly in Latin America, particularly in infrastructure development, energy, and technology sectors. Enhanced cooperation between China and Colombia could lead to new opportunities for both countries, boosting economic growth and benefiting their populations.
Caicedo’s remarks reflect a broader trend of Latin American countries seeking closer ties with Asia, recognizing the potential for trade partnerships and cultural exchange. As global dynamics shift, such collaborations are becoming increasingly important for sustainable development.
“We believe that working together with China will open doors for innovation and progress in our transport sector,” Caicedo concluded. “This is an opportunity we are eager to pursue.”
