The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) presents significant development opportunities for China, Morocco, and other participating nations, enhancing global connectivity and fostering economic growth. Abdelkader El Ansari, the newly appointed ambassador of Morocco to China, emphasized these benefits during an exclusive interview with CGTN.
“The BRI is a visionary project that has the potential to transform global trade dynamics,” El Ansari stated. “Morocco is strategically positioned as a gateway between Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. Our participation in the BRI will not only bolster our infrastructure development but also enhance trade relations and cultural exchanges with China and other partner countries.”
El Ansari highlighted the importance of cooperation in sectors such as renewable energy, technology, and maritime affairs. “We are keen to explore new avenues of collaboration that align with Morocco’s development goals and the shared interests of our partners,” he added.
Since its inception in 2013, the BRI has aimed to improve regional cooperation and connectivity on a transcontinental scale, involving over 140 countries. Morocco joined the initiative in 2017, seeking to leverage its strategic location and strengthen its economic ties with Asia.
The ambassador’s remarks come as both nations celebrate growing bilateral relations. China has become one of Morocco’s key trading partners, with investments spanning various sectors including infrastructure, mining, and tourism.
“Our partnership with China is built on mutual respect and a shared vision for prosperity,” El Ansari concluded. “We look forward to deepening our engagement through the BRI and contributing to a more connected and prosperous world.”
