Beijing, October 21, 2023— Taiwan businessmen gathered in Beijing on Saturday to celebrate the Lantern Festival at a reunion event organized by the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee. The festive occasion highlighted the growing opportunities for Taiwan enterprises on the Chinese mainland amidst a resilient and dynamic economy.
Song Tao, head of both the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, delivered heartfelt greetings to all Taiwan compatriots. “The Chinese mainland’s economy withstood challenges and achieved its expected goals in 2023,” Song noted, emphasizing the strong momentum and high-quality development that characterize the mainland’s economic landscape.
“The advantages of the mainland’s economy—positive growth, resilience, and the dividends of reform and opening up—will become even more prominent,” Song said. “These will provide Taiwan compatriots and enterprises with more opportunities to stay on the mainland and seek development.”
Song stressed the importance of adhering to the one-China principle and opposing “Taiwan independence” to maintain peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. “Only through unity can compatriots on both sides benefit from the mainland’s new development,” he asserted.
He urged individuals on both sides of the Strait to work together for the peaceful development of cross-strait relations and to advance the cause of national reunification. “If anyone harms the well-being of compatriots on both sides or hurts their feelings, we will make them pay the price,” Song cautioned.
During discussions at the event, representatives of Taiwan businesses expressed confidence in continuing their development on the mainland. They reiterated their commitment to fostering peaceful cross-strait relations and contributing to shared prosperity.
