President Xi Urges Enhanced Land Resource Management to Foster High-Quality Development

In a pivotal meeting held on Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the crucial role of enhancing land resource capabilities to propel high-quality development in regions with competitive advantages. Speaking at the fourth meeting of the central commission for deepening overall reform of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, President Xi underscored the need for efficient land management systems that align closely with macroeconomic policies and regional growth strategies.

Presiding over the meeting, President Xi, who also serves as general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, highlighted the importance of improving the accuracy and efficiency in allocating and utilizing land resources. This move aims to bolster economic activities and unlock the potential of various regions across China.

The commission reviewed and adopted significant guidelines focusing on land administration system reform, the promotion of an overarching green transition in China’s economic and social development, enhancement of grassroots emergency management capacity, and the acceleration of foundational systems supporting comprehensive innovation. Additionally, the commission assessed its 2023 work report and outlined key tasks for 2024, setting a strategic direction for the nation’s development initiatives.

President Xi pointed out that facilitating a comprehensive green transformation is fundamental to addressing environmental and ecological challenges. He urged for steadfast adherence to green development principles, emphasizing the simultaneous advancement of carbon reduction and pollution control. “We must integrate the concept of green development throughout the entire process of economic and social development,” he asserted.

On enhancing emergency management at the grassroots level, President Xi called for strengthened capabilities to effectively prevent and resolve major security risks. He stressed the importance of timely handling of various disasters and accidents to safeguard the well-being of the populace and maintain social stability.

In addressing innovation, President Xi announced plans to accelerate the establishment of fundamental systems that support comprehensive innovation across the country. He stressed the need to resolve key issues such as defining innovation objectives, organizing entities responsible for innovation, and developing mechanisms to support, motivate, and protect innovative efforts. This strategic focus aims to foster an environment conducive to innovation, which is vital for sustaining long-term economic growth and competitiveness.

As China continues to navigate its development path, these initiatives outlined by President Xi signify a commitment to sustainable growth, environmental stewardship, and innovation.
