Serbia Launches Chinese New Year Zodiac Stamp Series with Year of the Dragon

Serbia has unveiled the first in a series of postage stamps celebrating the Chinese New Year, marking an initiative that will span the next 12 years. Each year, a new stamp will feature a different animal from the Chinese zodiac, fostering cultural ties between Serbia and China.

On February 9, the Serbian postal service presented the inaugural stamp, depicting the dragon, symbolizing the current Chinese lunar year. Limited to an edition of 25,000, the stamp has already attracted significant interest from collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The stamps are being printed in Novi Sad, Serbia’s second-largest city, known for its rich cultural heritage and as a hub of the country’s printing industry. Located on the banks of the Danube River, Novi Sad boasts a population of nearly 370,000 and is widely recognized as the cultural capital of Serbia.

This collaborative effort not only commemorates the Chinese New Year but also signifies the strengthening cultural and economic relations between Serbia and China. The initiative is expected to enhance mutual understanding and spark interest in the traditions and customs associated with the Chinese zodiac.

The Serbian postal service’s commitment to this 12-year series reflects a broader trend of international appreciation for cultural diversity and provides an opportunity for people in Serbia and beyond to learn more about Chinese traditions.
