Chinese Vice Commerce Minister Wang Shouwen and U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago held an “in-depth and frank conversation” via video conference on Tuesday. The discussion focused on economic and trade issues of common concern and preparations for the first vice-ministerial meeting of the China-U.S. economic working group, according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.
Wang emphasized that China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation serves as a stabilizing force in the bilateral relationship. “China is willing to work with the U.S. side to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state after their summit meeting in San Francisco,” Wang stated. He underlined the importance of utilizing the China-U.S. economic working group to expand cooperation, manage differences, and create favorable conditions for business communities in both countries.
During the discussion, Wang expressed concerns over U.S. export controls on semiconductors and cloud services against China, the unfair treatment of Chinese companies in the U.S., and restrictive measures on Chinese photovoltaic products. He urged the U.S. to address these issues to foster a more conducive environment for bilateral trade and investment.
The meeting reflects ongoing efforts by both nations to stabilize and strengthen economic ties amidst global economic challenges. The upcoming vice-ministerial meeting is expected to further solidify frameworks for cooperation and address mutual concerns.
