The 2025 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races have launched with vibrant energy at Nam Van Lake, marking the start of a three-day celebration blending athleticism and cultural heritage. Over 150 teams from 15 countries and regions, including the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and the Philippines, will compete in the iconic event ahead of the Dragon Boat Festival on May 31.

Spectators gathered under sunny skies to watch elaborately decorated boats slice through the water, accompanied by rhythmic drumming. The races highlight Macao's unique fusion of tradition and modernity, drawing both local residents and international visitors. Organizers emphasized the event's role in promoting cultural tourism, with food stalls and craft markets showcasing Macao's Portuguese-influenced heritage.

Business analysts note increased hotel bookings and retail activity, underscoring the festival's economic impact. Meanwhile, diaspora communities worldwide are tuning in via livestreams to reconnect with the region's traditions. 'This is more than a race—it’s a bridge between generations and continents,' said event coordinator Maria Fernandes.
