Slovenian Scholar Stresses Academic Ties with China for Global Challenges

As the China-CEEC Expo highlights regional cooperation in Ningbo, Gregor Majdič, rector of Slovenia’s University of Ljubljana, emphasized the critical role of academic collaboration in addressing global challenges. In an interview with CGTN’s Zhang Meng, Majdič praised Ningbo’s sustainability efforts, calling it a "very green city" and linking its environmental focus to broader climate resilience strategies.

Majdič highlighted existing partnerships, including Chinese language programs in Slovenian primary schools and a robust Asian Studies department at his university. "These initiatives bridge cultural gaps and create economic opportunities," he said, noting that bilingual professionals help businesses navigate cross-border markets.

The rector positioned academia as a cornerstone of international cooperation, urging stronger ties to tackle shared issues like climate change and demographic shifts. "We live in one world," he asserted. "Collaboration across cultures isn’t just beneficial—it’s essential for humanity’s survival."

His remarks align with the China-CEEC Expo’s focus on multilateral engagement, underscoring education’s role in fostering sustainable development and mutual understanding.
