China Boosts Poverty Relief Efforts Across SCO Nations

China has intensified collaboration with Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states to advance poverty reduction strategies and sustainable development, marking a key focus of its rotating SCO presidency. The initiative, highlighted during the 2025 SCO Forum on Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development, underscores Beijing's commitment to fostering regional socioeconomic resilience.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated Thursday that President Xi Jinping's congratulatory letter to the forum emphasized China's readiness to share its poverty alleviation expertise and support tailored development approaches for SCO partners. \"China will strengthen policy coordination and practical cooperation to help nations achieve sustainable growth aligned with their unique conditions,\" Mao said during a press briefing.

The forum, part of China's SCO Year of Sustainable Development agenda, drew representatives from across Eurasia who welcomed Xi's message as a catalyst for cross-border knowledge exchange. Participants highlighted China's success in lifting over 800 million people out of poverty since the 1980s as a model for scalable solutions.

Analysts note this cooperation framework could reshape development paradigms in Central and South Asia, particularly in agriculture, education, and green energy sectors. The initiative aligns with broader SCO goals to enhance regional stability through economic empowerment, with future projects expected to prioritize technology transfer and capacity-building programs.
