China Media Group (CMG) has captured global attention by winning the Golden Award in the Video Short Feature category at the 87th Association of International Press in Sports (AIPS) Congress in Morocco. The award-winning documentary, titled 'Surface', highlights the resilience and achievements of China’s artistic swimming team during their historic gold medal pursuit at the Paris Olympics.
Produced and directed by Cheng Jieni of CMG’s Sports & Youth Center, the film offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the athletes’ rigorous training and emotional journey. Selected from a record-breaking 2,065 entries spanning 135 countries and regions, 'Surface' stood out for its cinematic storytelling and universal themes of perseverance.
"This year’s submissions reflect unprecedented global participation," said Nadine Alsheikh Hassan, AIPS Asia & MENA Media Coordinator, during the ceremony. "Winning here represents the pinnacle of sports journalism achievement."
The recognition underscores CMG’s growing influence in international sports media and aligns with China’s expanding role in global athletic culture. With its focus on human-driven narratives, 'Surface' bridges cultural divides while showcasing professional excellence in documentary filmmaking.
