Yangzhou Zoo Offers Reward for Escaped Capybara Fugitive

An unexpected escape saga is unfolding at the Zhuyuwan Scenic Area in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, where a capybara named Doubao remains on the run after a daring breakout. The zoo has upped the ante, offering free tickets to anyone who provides clues leading to the rodent's safe return.

Doubao, 18 months old, fled alongside companions Bazong and Duoduo on April 3 after surveillance footage captured Bazong smashing through a wooden enclosure panel. While Bazong and Duoduo were swiftly recaptured, Doubao continues to evade zookeepers, sparking a lighthearted but determined search. Authorities have since upgraded enclosures with reinforced nets to prevent future escapes.

Residents and tourists in Yangzhou are encouraged to report sightings of the sociable herbivore, fondly dubbed the 'internet's furry fugitive.' Doubao poses no danger to humans, officials note, but thrives in groups—making his solo adventure all the more urgent to resolve.
