China Powers Global Solar Growth in 2024: European Report

China dominated global solar energy expansion in 2024, contributing 55% of newly installed solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity worldwide, according to a report released by SolarPower Europe. Analysts hailed the milestone as a critical step toward achieving international carbon neutrality goals.

The nation added 329 gigawatts (GW) of solar capacity last year, accounting for over half of the world’s total new installations. The findings, unveiled during the 2025 Intersolar Europe exhibition, underscore China’s escalating role in renewable energy innovation and infrastructure development.

“China’s rapid deployment of solar technology is accelerating the global transition to clean energy,” stated a SolarPower Europe spokesperson. The report emphasizes that Chinese advancements in manufacturing and policy support have driven down costs, making solar power more accessible across Asia and beyond.

For investors and policymakers, the data highlights opportunities in cross-border green energy partnerships. Meanwhile, researchers note that China’s progress aligns with broader Asian climate commitments, offering case studies for scalable renewable projects. The report also resonates with diaspora communities keen to track sustainable development in the region.
