Hainan Emerges as Key Hub for China-India Economic Cooperation

As China and India commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations, business leaders highlight Hainan's growing role as a gateway for cross-border collaboration. Atul Dalakoti, Executive Director of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) China, recently emphasized the island's strategic potential during an interview with CGTN.

"Hainan serves as a window to trade in China, particularly through its Free Trade Port initiatives," Dalakoti stated, noting the province's streamlined customs procedures and tax incentives. "This creates tangible opportunities for Indian enterprises to partner with Chinese counterparts and access broader Asian markets."

The comments come as Hainan accelerates its transformation into a global trade hub under China's dual circulation development strategy. Analysts suggest the tropical island's focus on sectors like pharmaceuticals, digital economy, and green energy aligns well with India's industrial priorities.

Dalakoti underscored the timing of these developments: "With 75 years of diplomatic foundations, there's renewed momentum to translate political goodwill into commercial synergies." His observations follow increased cross-border dialogues focusing on supply chain resilience and sustainable growth models.

As Asian economies navigate post-pandemic recovery, Hainan's special economic policies and geographical position could make it a testing ground for innovative China-India partnerships – particularly in technology transfer and maritime logistics.
