Olympic Sliding Sports Secure Venue Ahead of 2026 Winter Games
Organizers of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics have confirmed that sliding sports – including bobsled, skeleton, and luge – will take place on a newly constructed track in Cortina d'Ampezzo. This follows months of uncertainty about the venue's readiness, with CEO Andrea Varnier announcing the successful pre-homologation tests conducted last week.
'This milestone proves critics wrong – building a world-class sliding track in just over 300 days is possible through collaboration and expertise,' Varnier stated. The track now awaits final homologation by the International Olympic Committee this fall before hosting training sessions and test events.
Engineering Triumph Under Tight Deadline
The rebuilt Cortina track underwent rigorous evaluation by the International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) and International Luge Federation (FIL). Both organizations praised its technical specifications and safety standards. The development marks a significant achievement for Italian engineers working against tight timelines, ensuring Cortina maintains its legacy as a winter sports hub.
