OSAKA – The 2025 World Expo’s China Pavilion is drawing global attention with its awe-inspiring ‘Chinese Bamboo Book’ design, a modern architectural marvel rooted in 2,000-year-old cultural traditions. Spanning 3,500 square meters, the pavilion features lattice-like bamboo strips adorned with intricate engravings depicting China’s technological achievements and philosophical wisdom.
Academician Cui Kai, lead designer from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, reveals the structure employs eco-friendly bamboo composite materials and AI-driven temperature control systems. ‘We wanted visitors to physically experience China’s civilization continuity – ancient wisdom enabling modern innovation,’ Cui explained during an exclusive briefing.
The pavilion’s interactive corridors will showcase rotating digital displays of Chinese calligraphy alongside real-time data from mainland tech hubs like Shenzhen. Sustainability features include rainwater harvesting through ‘bamboo trough’ drainage systems and solar-integrated roofing patterns.
With over 150 countries and regions participating, this cultural landmark positions China’s historical identity within a futuristic vision, offering business leaders insights into sustainable urban solutions while giving diaspora visitors tangible connections to ancestral heritage.
