China is reaffirming its commitment to the development and revitalization of the Global South, highlighting this focus as a cornerstone of the Global Development Initiative. Lou Qinjian, spokesperson for the third session of the 14th National People's Congress, made the remarks during a press conference on Tuesday.
Lou pointed out that over the past two decades, countries in the Global South have contributed up to 80 percent of global economic growth. This impressive surge signals a significant shift in the global order, reflecting the collective rise of these nations.
As a developing country and a vital member of the Global South, China shares a common destiny with these nations. Lou emphasized that China has consistently been an active participant and leader in South–South cooperation, fostering strong partnerships and collaborative efforts.
China is extending its development assistance to more than 160 countries, working in tandem with over 150 nations and upwards of 30 international organizations to advance the Belt and Road Initiative. This vast network of collaboration underscores China's dedication to building infrastructure and fostering economic growth across diverse regions.
Furthermore, Lou highlighted China's commitment to promoting a community with a shared future for mankind. The nation is accelerating the implementation of three major global initiatives aimed at addressing critical challenges and fostering sustainable development worldwide.
