Han Mei of the Chinese mainland secured the women's 1,000-meter bronze medal at the final stop of the International Skating Union (ISU) Speed Skating World Cup in Heerenveen, the Netherlands, on Saturday.
Competing against home favorite Jutta Leerdam, who clocked a time of 1:14.27 to win the gold, Han Mei finished 0.53 seconds behind in third place. Miho Takagi claimed the silver with a time of 1:14.49.
This marks Han Mei's second bronze at the World Cup, following her success in the women's 1,500-meter event the previous day. She currently ranks third in total points across both events.
Han's compatriot, Ning Zhongyan, narrowly missed the podium in the men's 1,000-meter competition, finishing fourth with a time of 1:08.07, just 0.09 seconds behind Dutch bronze medalist Tim Prins. Jenning de Boo of the Netherlands took the gold with a time of 1:07.45, while Cooper McLeod of the U.S. finished as the runner-up at 1:07.87.
