Yanghuang Irrigation Project Transforms Ningxia’s Desolate Land into Oasis

Before 1998, Hongsibu in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region was a desolate area shrouded in sandstorms. Life in the region was harsh, with limited resources and challenging living conditions for its residents.

Everything changed with the initiation of the Yanghuang Irrigation Project. Utilizing a sophisticated four-level pumping system, the project succeeded in lifting water from the Yellow River to a height of 300 meters. This engineering marvel not only provided a steady water supply but also facilitated the transformation of the arid landscape.

The Yanghuang Irrigation Project resulted in the creation of the country's largest centralized ecological resettlement area. The availability of water nurtured the land, allowing agriculture to flourish and reversing the effects of desertification. As a result, the lives of 230,000 people were forever changed, bringing prosperity and sustainability to the region.
