China Signals Willingness to Boost Cooperation with Czech Republic

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has expressed China's willingness to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation with the Czech Republic, provided that the Czech side respects China's core interests. This statement was made during a meeting with Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China's Central Committee, emphasized that while the Czech Republic was among the first countries to establish diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China, recent years have seen a downturn in bilateral relations—a situation China aims to reverse.

Highlighting China's commitment to an independent foreign policy of peace, Wang stated that there are no fundamental conflicts regarding national interests or geopolitical disputes between China and the Czech Republic. He underscored that improving relations aligns with the shared aspirations and fundamental interests of both nations.

Wang urged the Czech side to engage in earnest self-reflection, develop a correct perspective on China, and take concrete actions to rebuild trust. He emphasized that respecting China's core interests, particularly adherence to the one-China principle, is essential for returning bilateral ties to a healthy and stable trajectory. Only then would China be willing to strengthen cooperation in various fields.

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky acknowledged the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and the Czech Republic last year. He recalled the establishment of a strategic partnership during Chinese President Xi Jinping's 2016 visit, which set a clear direction for mutually beneficial cooperation.

In the context of looming trade wars, Lipavsky highlighted the importance of maintaining dialogue and cooperation between the Czech Republic and China, as well as between the EU and China. He reaffirmed that the Czech government pursues a one-China policy and does not support Taiwan independence. Lipavsky emphasized the Czech Republic's willingness to work with China to develop sound political relations and advance bilateral cooperation for better outcomes.

The two sides also exchanged views on China-EU relations, the Ukraine crisis, and other pertinent issues.
