DPRK Strengthens Self-Defense to Safeguard National Security

Pyongyang has emphasized the importance of bolstering self-defensive capabilities to deter rival provocations and ensure national security. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) underscores that enhancing its strategic armed forces is vital for maintaining the security of the state and the regional strategic balance.

The recent deployment of a U.S. nuclear-powered submarine to the Korean Peninsula and the joint U.S.-South Korean plan to conduct large-scale war drills have been cited as key reasons for DPRK’s increased focus on defense capabilities.

The chief of the policy office of the DPRK’s defense ministry stated that it is the sovereign’s right to develop self-defense measures capable of effectively countering security threats and maintaining regional strategic balance. These remarks were reported by the official Korean Central News Agency.

The chief further criticized the United States for posing a serious threat to the Korean Peninsula’s security environment through its pursuit of reckless arms buildup and radical modernization of its nuclear forces.

The DPRK dismissed U.S. claims that it has developed the capability to strike North America with nuclear weapons, labeling these assertions as \"a brigandish sophism like a guilty party filing the suit first.\"

Expressing concern over what it views as the U.S. military’s confrontational behavior and its efforts to shape public opinion against the DPRK, the chief called for the United States to abandon its military threats and hostile policies towards independent sovereign states to alleviate security fears.
