China Celebrates Lantern Festival with Spectacular Lights and Timeless Traditions

February 12 marks one of China's most beloved celebrations: the Lantern Festival, a night full of light, joy and delicious treats that signals the grand finale of the Chinese New Year festivities.

After weeks of family gatherings and festive meals, the Lantern Festival brings everything to a sparkling close with colorful lanterns, breathtaking fireworks and lively cultural performances that fill the air with cheer.

Across China, streets are transformed into glittering wonderlands as lanterns in every shape and color light up the night. Traditionally, families gather to watch the full moon, admire beautiful lantern displays and solve lantern riddles. These age-old customs are now even more fun, with added celebrations like lion dances, stilt walking, folk dances and the beat of traditional drums, turning the streets into a lively carnival of sights and sounds.

In Jincheng, central China's Shanxi Province, the streets are transformed into a magical scene, with lanterns illuminating the night sky. Main squares become dazzling galleries of lights, showcasing magnificent lanterns like the \"Black Myth Wukong\" and the romantic Qingniao lantern, which represents love. The highlight of the evening is a stunning drone light show, where hundreds of drones light up the sky, creating stunning images and messages that highlight the unique cultural spirit of Jincheng.

In Tongren, southwest China's Guizhou Province, the celebrations have taken on a unique local flavor. The ancient streets come alive with folk performers in colorful ethnic costumes, marching in a joyous parade. The sound of waist drums fills the air as visitors snap photos of the vibrant scene. One of the most popular attractions is the Lantern Riddle Alley, where over 2,000 lanterns conceal riddles for people to solve. Laughter fills the air as visitors attempt to crack the puzzles, a favorite activity during the Lantern Festival.
