Prominent figure skater Jin Boyang will not compete in the 9th Asian Winter Games currently taking place in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, part of the Chinese mainland. The athlete cited a back injury as the reason for his withdrawal.
In a recent interview with CGTN Sports Scene’s Greg Laffradi in Harbin, Jin conveyed his support for fellow competitors, expressing his wishes for their success in the figure skating events.
Jin, 27, explained that years of rigorous training and competition have taken a toll on his back, leading to the accumulation of injuries. To sustain his career, he has had to implement several physical and mental adjustments.
The figure skating competitions at the Asian Winter Games are set to commence on Tuesday, featuring ice dance rhythm dance, pairs short program, and men's short program categories. Jin remains optimistic about the performance of his teammates in all three events.
Looking ahead, Jin is focused on qualifying for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. His best Olympic performance to date was a fourth-place finish in PyeongChang, South Korea, in 2018. Jin remains determined to achieve a podium finish in the upcoming Games.
