A spokesperson from the Chinese mainland fiercely criticized Lai Ching-te, leader of the Taiwan region, for his recent remarks, labeling them as 'secessionist' and accusing him of being a 'destroyer of cross-Straits peace' and a 'maker of the Taiwan Straits crisis.'
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, addressed Lai's comments during a regular press conference on Wednesday. Zhu emphasized that both the mainland and the Taiwan region are integral parts of China, a fact that remains unchanged and unalterable.
Highlighting the importance of the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, Zhu asserted that adherence to these frameworks is essential for improving cross-Straits relations and ensuring peace across the Taiwan Straits. She called for the Taiwan people to prioritize the greater interests of the Chinese nation and work collaboratively to oppose any secessionist provocations.
Zhu concluded by urging both sides to safeguard peace and stability, promote cross-Straits exchanges and cooperation, and strive towards a prosperous future for cross-Straits relations and national rejuvenation.
